Which revision gigabyte motherboard

Info compared two Gigabyte motherboards which had the same model number but different revision numbers, and came across some surprises in the form of performance drops. Motherboard revisions are a common thing and it is basically done by manufacturers to get rid of some nagging issues which may not have come to light in the first edition of the board.

Gigabyte comes out with revisions of its original motherboards with denominations such as Rev 1. Between two revisions of the same board you may find a lot of differences. According to Hardware.

Info, since different revisions are selling with the same EAN code, it can mislead the buyer as well as the distributor. In the Gigbayte B85M-HD3 boards, seen above with the different revisions, you will notice that they aren't exactly alike.

Some of the changes include lesser number of phases on Rev 2. Now while Gigabyte has clearly mentioned on its web pages about the changes in the revision, it does not give any idea of lesser number of phases in Rev 2. So for instance, if a buyer has read a review online of a Rev 1. As can be seen above, the differences are quite evident. These aren't just cosmetic changes, but in fact affect the performance at some level.

After putting it to the test, it became apparent that the performance of that motherboard is slower as well. It is mentioned that the Rev 1. Now, for revision 2. What the guys unfortunately did not do, not even mention it, is that there also is a revision 3. Again pretty big changes though mostly aesthetically on a positive note, this round rev 3. Overall let's be honest not a bad looking product, but the problem remains After looking back further a bit we noticed that many budget board in a later revision have been 'cut-down' quiet a bit.

Some examples:. So from the looks of things overall Gigabyte has been tampering with later revisions quite a bit, often to save on costs.

But in all honesty sometimes we also noticed improvements on several SKUs. Category 1 Category 2 Category 3 Category 4. Support UI. X Donate Contact us. New posts Trending Search forums. What's new.
